Lectors These are the readers at mass. Proclaiming God’s Word is part of every good Catholic worship service. Lectors are responsible for the effective proclamation of the scriptures. This requires both faith and skill. We encourage our lectors to prepare by meditating and praying over the scriptures to be proclaimed. In our parish we do not use missalettes in order to enable each member of the congregation to be fully attentive to listening and hearing the Word. Lectors are encouraged to take part in workshops, retreats, and prayer opportunities that will deepen their ability to understand and experience God through the Word they proclaim. New lectors are generally sought each year. Anyone who can demonstrate a good reading ability is welcome. While age is somewhat a concern, we have a few very young readers who do very well. In-service is required. Scheduling is up to each lector. God can speak through you. |
